VTF Richmond League (WINTER)
2018 VTA Richmond Winter League

What is World TeamTennis?
WTT is co-ed teams competing in a format that consists of 6 no-ad sets. One set each of men's and women's doubles followed by men's and women's singles, ending with 2 sets of mixed doubles. Total games won from all sets determines the winner. Substitutions and coaching are allowed during the match. Click here to view WTT Rules
What is a WTT team?
A team must have two men and two women as a minimum. Only 10 players on a team can advance to a National Qualifier, and each player must have played in two matches of that particular season.
Who can play?
Anyone 18 years and over.
When do leagues start?
The Winter Indoor League begins the week of January 7, 2018 through March 25, 2018. Some matches in mid-March will be scheduled at home clubs outdoors as fair as we can. We will schedule indoor matches until either March 4 or 11th.

All matches will be played on Friday night, Saturday, and Sunday (afternoon and evening).
Sign-Up Deadline: Teams in by December 17, 2017
Team names must be submitted by December 17, 2017. ALL PLAYERS MUST BE REGISTERED BEFORE PARTICIPATION IN A MATCH.

Saturday, Jan 6 at MTC from 6-7 pm, followed by a drills court and evaluation for any self rated player from 7-8 pm.
What Divisions (levels of play) are offered?
The levels of play being offered are 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5. Would love to have some open level WTT events through the winter. To be announced.

Note: New Self rated players need to contact us at rob@virginiatennis.org BEFORE they register/play for a team. This is required with no exceptions. Captains, please make sure to alert your players of this if they have never had or currently do not have a rating. We will use the link below to ascertain what level is best for each player.

Determining Team Rating
The average NTRP rating of the top two men and top two women players on your team determines the team rating.
  Joe- 4.5 Mary- 3.5
  Tom- 4.5 Jill-3.5
  Bill- 4.0 Gail- 3.5
  Joe- 4.5 Mary- 3.5
  Jim- 3.5 Joan- 3.0
The best two men and two women are: 4.5 + 4.5 + 3.5 + 3.5 = 16. 16 divided by 4 equals 4.0.
This team could register for the 4.0 division or a higher division. A team consists of a minimum of two men and two women. Although the limit to the number of team members is ten, the suggested number of players is three men and three women. Click here to determine your NTRP level.
Where do we play?
Matches will be played at various tennis facilities.

We currently have WESTWOOD, VCU, and MTC on board as hosts to league matches. We are currently talking with other indoor facilities so more can be added. With the potential number of matches, matches are timed at two hours. If you are forced to leave a court before your match is done, the score stands. If you are in a game or tiebreak, the team ahead will win that game or tiebreak. If there is a tie, play one more point and the winner of that point is awarded the game. You must exit the courts when time has expired. Thank you for your understanding with this.
Can I register as an individual/substitute/team?
You may register as an individual by emailing us at rob@virginiatennis.org and we will do our very best to get you onto a team or we can form a new one. Other team captains will be responsible for making sure their team members are registered.

As LC's we will also offer our services to those players who do NOT wish to captain. We will be your team administrator and there will be a charge of $10/player if you want us to take care of things. We will require one of the players on the team to be the acting captain though as we will NOT be at the match. That acting captain can email us after the completion of the match all the scores and all subs that went in during the match.
Why register via the Internet?
You are not an official league participant until you have registered online. When you register via the Internet site you will be e-mailed league information during the season and your WTT Member Benefits (WTT Point of Contact Newsletter, discounts on hotel, rental cars, 2 for 1 tickets, plus more).
What is the cost?
League fees are $32.00 per person plus an additional court fee that will be disclosed when the schedules are published. All players will be charged the court fee. How to pay will be sent to you in advance.
League winners qualify for a National Qualifier?
Winning teams advance to the WTT National Qualifiers. Your team is eligible to participate in a NQ for up to one year from the end date of your league. For every four (4) teams in any official World TeamTennis (WTT) local league division, one (1) team will be eligible to participate in a NQ. Click here for more details.
Local League Information & Rules:
Two men and Two women from both teams must be present at the start of each match. Matches will start on time. Parking, bathroom breaks, changing clothes must be done before the scheduled match time. If one team is not prepared to start on time, they will be penalized one game per five minute delay, two games per ten minute delay, and first set forfeited if later than 15 minutes. Winter matches are timed. If a match is not completed by the end of two hours, the score stands at the end of the two hours. The timed match rule is subject to facility.
