Downingtown Summer Junior WTT
2018 Summer Downingtown Jr. WTT

What is World TeamTennis?
WTT is co-ed teams competing in a format that consists of 6 no-ad sets. One set each of boy's and girl's doubles followed by boy's and girl's singles, ending with 2 sets of mixed doubles. Total games won from all sets determines the winner. Substitutions and coaching are allowed during the match. Click here to view WTT Rules

What is a WTT team?
A team must have two boys and two girls, as a minimum. (10 players maximum). This allows for periods of rest and missing matches.

Who can play?
Any Juniors who are ages 14-18 can participate. This also includes anyone who is 13, but will turn 14 in the month of June.

When do leagues start?
Matches will begin the week of June 18 and run through August 31. The final 2 weeks of August will be the League Championships. We will aim at having an Awards Party at the end of the season.

Sign-Up Deadline: June 10, 2018
All money and paperwork are due by this date. No refunds and/or transfer of payment to another person after the season starts.

What Divisions (levels of play) are offered?
We will have an Intermediate Flight, and an Advanced Flight. If you have questions regarding what constitutes Intermediate and Advanced, please let me know.

The goal is to have Intermediate matches on the following days: Monday evenings, Wednesday evenings, and/or Saturdays. This also depends on schedule availability at the various match locations.

The goal is to have Advanced matches on the following days: Tuesday evenings, Thursday evenings, and/or Saturdays. This also depends on schedule availability at the various match locations.

Depending on number of teams, the goal is to have 8-10 matches per team. Please note that players do not have to play every week. The match schedule will be released during the first week of June.

Determining Team Rating
The average NTRP rating of the top two men and top two women players on your team determines the team rating.

       Example:
  Joe- 4.5 Mary- 3.5
  Tom- 4.5 Jill-3.5
  Bill- 4.0 Gail- 3.5
  Joe- 4.5 Mary- 3.5
  Jim- 3.5 Joan- 3.0

The best two men and two women are: 4.5 + 4.5 + 3.5 + 3.5 = 16. 16 divided by 4 equals 4.0.

This team could register for the 4.0 division or a higher division. A team consists of a minimum of two men and two women. Although the limit to the number of team members is ten, the suggested number of players is three men and three women. Click here to determine your NTRP level.

Where do we play?
Matches will be played at various locations. Home Teams are responsible for setting up courts/costs. Please allow 2 hour slots for matches. Coaches should e-mail me 5 or 6 options for available matches at your facility. This allows me to construct a schedule based on various location flexibility and availability.

Can I register as an individual/substitute/team?
Please communicate with your coach before signing up. Coaches are allowed to have teams in the Intermediate flight, Advanced flight, or both. Coaches can also have more than 1 team in a specific flight if you have more than 10 players interested in a flight.

ALL players must register as individuals through the portal registration link. You cannot register as a substitute.

Note to substitute players:
Please refer to the Scorecard for "in-match" subbing rules. Players are allowed to Sub in and out during sets of matches.

Why register via the Internet?
You are not an official league participant until you have registered online. When you register via the Internet site you will be e-mailed league information during the season and your WTT Member Benefits (WTT Point of Contact Newsletter, discounts on hotel, rental cars, 2 for 1 tickets, plus more).

What is the cost?
League fees are $250.00 per team, and $25.00 per person. I will take Cash or Check methods for payment only. For each team you enter, coaches should send one check that covers your team. Please write checks out to "Steve Motyka". Please include "2018 Juniors WTT Fees" in the memo line. Please ask me directly for where to send your payments to.

Coaches are responsible for reserving courts/court costs for Home Matches. Home Teams also will provide 2 Wilson ball cans for matches.

League winners qualify for a National Qualifier?
Winning teams advance to the WTT National Qualifiers. Your team is eligible to participate in a NQ for up to one year from the end date of your league. For every four (4) teams in any official World TeamTennis (WTT) local league division, one (1) team will be eligible to participate in a NQ. Click here for more details.

Local League Information & Rules:
Please see the following scorecard for explanation of rules: http://www.wttrec.com/rectoolbox/RecLeague_Scorecard.pdf

We will also be utilizing a Time-Limit rule per set. Not including warm-ups, players will have 20 minutes to complete any given set (unless it is the Designated Mixed Doubles Set). If a set is completed before 20 minutes are finished, then the set is over and the winning player receives 6 games for his or her team. If a set is not completed when 20 minutes are over, coaches will inform players that time is up. The players will be allowed to finish the game they are currently in the middle of. The current set score will then be recorded. For example, a set will be scored as 4-3 if time ends when the score is 4-3.

Coaches are required to be present at matches for your players. If a coach cannot be present, a parent volunteer can assist as well. As League Director, I would advise you to collect Consent/Waiver forms from your parents/players.

During the first week of June, I will send all coaches a 2-page PDF document that describes the match rules for your teams to follow.
