2019 VTF NOVA Spring League

What is World TeamTennis?
WTT is co-ed teams competing in a format that consists of 6 no-ad sets. One set each of men's and women's doubles followed by men's and women's singles, ending with 2 sets of mixed doubles. Total games won from all sets determines the winner. Substitutions and coaching are allowed during the match. Click here to view WTT Rules
What is a WTT team?
A team must have two men and two women, as a minimum (10 players maximum). Teams are responsible to have enough players in order to play all lines for all matches. There will be no rearranging if teams are short players. If you are short, you should email me or look at the players looking for play on the teams/players tab. I can connect you with them.
Who can play?
Adults (18 & over) may register. All levels 2.5-5.0.
When do leagues start?
Play will begin April 12, 2019 and continue to June 22, 2019. Let me know if you prefer Friday night or Saturday matches when you email me. Teams should prepare to play either day, but not both, unless it is necessary.
Sign-Up Deadline: March 31, 2019
Team registration is open from March 1-31. I only need captains to email me or register as a captain and be sure to include your team name and I will create it. Players need to register before they play in a match.
What Divisions (levels of play) are offered?
The levels of play being offered are 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5 AND Senior (50+) 3.0, 3.5, 4.0. Depending on the number of teams, divisions can be combined.

PLEASE READ THE RULE BELOW HOW TO DETERMINE YOUR TEAM RATING. A 3.5 player can play on a 3.0 team as long as the team rating stays at or below the 3.0 team rating. Also, once a team is determined and approved (you will hear from me if it is not eligible for the division entered), anyone can play together.
Determining Team Rating
The average NTRP rating of the top two men and top two women players on your team determines the team rating.
  Joe- 4.5 Mary- 3.5
  Tom- 4.5 Jill-3.5
  Bill- 4.0 Gail- 3.5
  Joe- 4.5 Mary- 3.5
  Jim- 3.5 Joan- 3.0
The best two men and two women are: 4.5 + 4.5 + 3.5 + 3.5 = 16. 16 divided by 4 equals 4.0.
This team could register for the 4.0 division or a higher division. A team consists of a minimum of two men and two women. Although the limit to the number of team members is ten, the suggested number of players is three men and three women. Click here to determine your NTRP level.
Where do we play?
When you register, let me know if there is a venue you would like to use for your home matches. If you have a club/facility, make sure they know you have a team and they have court time for you. I will do my very best to arrange a venue for your team, but there could be a court usage fee to the home team.
Can I register as an individual/substitute/team?
You may register/email me as an individual if you can not get a team together. If there is a team(s) looking I will connect you with them. If there are enough independent players, we can also create a team with them, but I can guarantee this nor can I guarantee I can place you.
Note to substitute players:
Players can not sub. Only paid/registered players may compete in the league and also be eligible for a national qualifier.
Why register via the Internet?
You are not an official league participant until you have registered online. When you register via the Internet site you will be e-mailed league information during the season and your WTT Member Benefits (WTT Point of Contact Newsletter, discounts on hotel, rental cars, 2 for 1 tickets, plus more).
What is the cost?
League fee is $35/player, plus any additional court fees (if nec). Captains will get one invoice and can get reimbursed by their teammates.
League winners qualify for a National Qualifier?
Winning teams advance to the WTT National Qualifiers. Your team is eligible to participate in a NQ for up to one year from the end date of your league. For every four (4) teams in any official World TeamTennis (WTT) local league division, one (1) team will be eligible to participate in a NQ. Click here for more details.
Local League Information & Rules:
1. Download a WTT scoresheet and read over the rules. This can be found on the Virginia Tennis Website and click on your league area.

2. Inclement weather/postseason tournament: If it rains or there are any postseason tournaments that create a shortage of players, you may arrange the match, but it has to be completed within 12 days of the scheduled date. The home team offers at least 2 or more options and the opposing team can choose one of them. Teams need to email the opposing team captain and the League Coordinator by the Monday before the match, if not sooner.

3. Self Rated players need to be approved. If you had a past USTA rating and are coming back, you must use that rating. If you NEVER had a USTA rating, you will be evaluated. I will contact the captain and the player.

4. There could be meetings scheduled before the season begins. The captain or a representative of the team is required to attend. I further recommend that any NEW player to WTT attend as it can clear up any confusion about WTT rules. Meeting times and venue will be announced in advance.

5. Winning teams will be invited to attend a National Qualifier. For every 4 teams in a division, ONE team is invited. Players are required to play in 2 different matches to be eligible to play in the NQ. See above to read more.

6. Matches are not timed unless the home team captain tells you before the match begins.

7. If you have any questions please contact me at the email below.
