VTF Fredericksburg
2019 VTF Fredericksburg Spring League

What is World TeamTennis?
WTT is co-ed teams competing in a format that consists of 6 no-ad sets. One set each of men's and women's doubles followed by men's and women's singles, ending with 2 sets of mixed doubles. Total games won from all sets determines the winner. Substitutions and coaching are allowed during the match. Click here to view WTT Rules
What is a WTT team?
A team must have two men and two women, as a minimum. (10 players maximum). Teams are responsible to have enough players in order to play all lines for all matches. There will be no rearranging if teams are short a player(s). If teams are short, you should email me or look for players looking to play on the team/players page. I can connect you with someone from that list.
Who can play?
Adults (18 & over) may sign up as part of a team. All levels from 2.5-5.0.
When do leagues start?
Play begins April 12, 2019 and continues through June 22, 2019 (no later than). Let me know if you prefer to have your home matches on Friday or Saturday night when you email me. Teams should prepare to play either night though (not both).
Sign-Up Deadline: March 31, 2019
Team registration open from March 1-31. I only need captains to email me or register as a captain and be sure to include your team name, then I will create it and your teammates can then register. Players need to register and pay before they can play in a match.
What Divisions (levels of play) are offered?
The levels of play being offered are 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5 AND Senior (50+) 3.0, 3.5, 4.0. Depending on the number of teams, divisions can be combined.

PLEASE READ THE RULE BELOW HOW TO DETERMINE YOUR TEAM RATING. If you do it correctly, a higher rated player can play on a lower division (i.e. a 3.5 player can play on a 3.0 team as long as the TEAM rating stays at or below a 3.0 team rating.) Also, once the team rating has been determined and approved (you will hear from me if it wasn't), anyone can play together.
Determining Team Rating
The average NTRP rating of the top two men and top two women players on your team determines the team rating.
  Joe- 4.5 Mary- 3.5
  Tom- 4.5 Jill-3.5
  Bill- 4.0 Gail- 3.5
  Joe- 4.5 Mary- 3.5
  Jim- 3.5 Joan- 3.0
The best two men and two women are: 4.5 + 4.5 + 3.5 + 3.5 = 16. 16 divided by 4 equals 4.0.
This team could register for the 4.0 division or a higher division. A team consists of a minimum of two men and two women. Although the limit to the number of team members is ten, the suggested number of players is three men and three women. Click here to determine your NTRP level.
Where do we play?
When you register to play, the captain should make sure they have home courts at their club/facility. If there is an independent team, I can try and arrange a location, but I can NOT guarantee this and there would most likely be an additional fee to use the courts. Only the independent team would incur the cost and not the opposing team.
Can I register as an individual/substitute/team?
You may register as an individual and we can try to place you on a team if there are teams looking for players to add, but I can not guarantee it. If there are enough independent players, we can create a new team with them. If you do not want to register that is fine. Just email me to get your name added to my list of players looking to play. Anyone who does register and does not get placed on a team we will refund your league fee.
Note to substitute players:
Players may not register as a sub. Only players registered/paid may compete in the league and also compete in any postseason tournament (National Qualifier/Nationals).
Why register via the Internet?
You are not an official league participant until you have registered online. When you register via the Internet site you will be e-mailed league information during the season and your WTT Member Benefits (WTT Point of Contact Newsletter, discounts on hotel, rental cars, 2 for 1 tickets, plus more).
What is the cost?
League fees are $35/person, plus any additional court costs, if necessary.
League winners qualify for a National Qualifier?
Winning teams advance to the WTT National Qualifiers. Your team is eligible to participate in a NQ for up to one year from the end date of your league. For every four (4) teams in any official World TeamTennis (WTT) local league division, one (1) team will be eligible to participate in a NQ. Click here for more details.
Local League Information & Rules:
1. Please download a WTT scorecard and read over the rules for the league. This can be found on the Virginia Tennis website also. (See contact info below for web address.)

2. Inclement weather/postseason play arrangements: If it rains or if there is any postseason tournament, teams have 12 days from the scheduled date to get it played. Home teams should offer at least 2 or more dates. Teams need to email opposing captains and League Coordinator (email below) by the Monday before their match, if not before.

3. Self rated players need to be approved. If you had a past USTA rating and are coming back, you are required to use your old rating. If you NEVER had a USTA rating, you will be evaluated. I will contact the captain and the player.

4. There could be meetings scheduled before the league begins. The captain or a representative is required to attend. I even recommend any player new to WTT to attend as it will help clear up any rules you are not aware of. Meeting times and location will be announced in advance.

5. Winning teams will be invited to attend a National Qualifier (NQ). For every 4 teams in a division, ONE team will be invited. Players are required to play in 2 different matches to be eligible for the NQ See above to read more.

6. Matches are NOT timed unless the home captain tells you before the match begins.

7. If you have any other questions, never hesitate to email me.
